- Scammed on paying the brokerage to a fraudulent individual ^Closed

As someone who recently went through a distressing experience of being scammed while trying to rent a flat, I feel compelled to share my story.

I was looking for a flat in Koramangala and I came across this post on Flats & Flatmates posted by the tenant, Jasmeen Singh with no mention on the brokerage fee. However, on visiting the appartment I got to know there's a broker, Mithil Jaysen, who was termed as a "Property Manager" is involved and asked me to do all the dealings through him. Eager to secure the apartment, I reached out to the provided contact information and was promptly introduced to the "broker" who claimed to represent the owner. Unknowingly, this so-called broker was actually a friend of the previous tenant who had vacated the apartment recently. Regrettably, I failed to conduct thorough research on the broker's background or verify their legitimacy and couldn't even contact the owner since he didn't share any contacts.

As the process moved forward, the broker informed me about a one-time brokerage fee that needed to be paid to secure the flat. Despite my initial surprise, I reluctantly agreed, assuming this was a standard practice in the real estate market.

A few days after signing the rental agreement and moving into the flat, I met the actual owner of the property. To my utter disbelief, the owner was unaware of any broker and brokerage fees. The owner assumed the broker to be Tenant's friend. It became evident that the previous tenant had orchestrated an elaborate scam, involving their friend as a fake broker to dupe unsuspecting renters like myself
